Trial set for suspect in 2011 murder of Kelli O'Laughlin, 14

February 13, 2014 (CHICAGO)

Lyons Township High School student Kelli O'Laughlin was just 14 when she was killed during an October 2011 break-in at her family's Indian Head Park home. The trial is now scheduled to begin May 19th.

"We have waited a very long time for justice to be done," Kelli's mother Brenda O'Laughlin told Eyewitness News. "We are focusing on getting to trial and also keeping Kelli's memory alive through her foundation." Each year, the O'Laughlin's raise money and award scholarships in their daughter's name.

John Wilson, Jr. is charged with Kelli O'Laughlin's murder. He has changed attorneys repeatedly, at one point demanded to represent himself and filed countless motions that have led to dozens of hearings and delayed the trial. Wilson is a career criminal who had spent 17 of the 20 years before the murder behind bars.
