Public transit is good for your health, study finds

According to researchers, people who take the bus or train engage in more physical activity than those who don't use public transit.

Almost 700 people participated in the study in King County, Washington. Researchers said walking to the bus stop or train station was the primary difference between transit users and non-users.

The average American who takes public transit walks about 19 minutes a day, according to the study. And, in 2009, approximately 7 million Americans commuted to work via train or bus.
