Man, 21, dead in Markham shooting

A shooting Tuesday night in south suburban Markham drew a huge police presence, including Markham police and Cook County officers.

A shooting Tuesday night in south suburban Markham drew a huge police presence, including Markham police and Cook County officers.

A Chicago police helicopter was overhead for a time at the scene in the 3200-block of West 161st Street. And the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force is assisting. Police appeared to be involved in a widespread search for a suspect or suspects.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has received notice that a 21-year-old man was killed. The man died at Christ Hospital.

The shooting occurred after 10 p.m. Police stepped up their search around midnight, according to witnesses.
