The funeral for Alexsandria Burgos, 18, will be held Thursday evening as her family remembers a young woman with a bright future.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The funeral for Alexsandria Burgos will be held Thursday evening. Burgos, 18, was shot to death last weekend on the northwest side of Chicago. Her family says she was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, and now they are living a nightmare that will never go away.

Milargros Burgos, Alexsandria's mother, received the call that all parents dread from her son. He was calling to tell her that her only daughter had been shot while sitting in an apartment on West Oakdale.

On Sunday, Alexsandria went to pick up her younger brother, who was visiting a girlfriend. She was in an apartment when several gunshots came from outside the building, hitting her in the head. She was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital, the same hospital she was born in.

"I still feel I am living a nightmare," Milagros says. "I want her to come inside my house "

Milagros says her daughter had a star personality. She worked part-time at the YMCA Leaning Tower with children, and was in college, studying to be a social worker. Her mother says she was a loving young woman with a bright future.

"She was a good girl, everybody loved her," she says.

Police are still searching for the gunman. Her family wants justice.

"Whoever did this, I want them caught and put away for life," Milagros says.

The family is asking that anyone with any information that may pertain to this shooting come forward and speak to police.
