Cakegirls is a custom cake studio located in the Roscoe Village neighborhood in Chicago. An experiment in cake design, Cakegirls has had a long road to success which started in Rochester, Michigan where the sisters spent years sharing a room, sharing coloring books and most importantly sharing their Easy Bake Oven.

Following their passions, Mary received a Bachelor of Arts in French after having traveled through Europe and studying abroad in the city of Orleans, France. Brenda soon followed with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish after having traveled and lived in Mexico City for two years. Between their various excursions, they spent most of their time working for a wonderful bakery in Michigan called Home Bakery. It was here that they found the creative niche for which they always had a natural talent. Custom orders for 3-D cars, elaborate wedding cakes, and designer birthday cakes gave them a chance to cut their teeth as beginning cake decorators. While in Michigan their love of cake decorating blossomed into an art. They soon realized that their specific talents could better serve their creative vision by opening their own cake shop.

In 2000, Brenda and Mary made the decision to move to Chicago and open Cakegirls. They believed in their talents and knew the right clientele would soon follow. Cakegirls took off with remarkable success. With Brenda and Mary at the helm, Cakegirls gained a reputation for merging high design and taste. Known for their signature purse cakes, contemporary wedding cake designs, and 3-D art based work, they've made a splash in Chicago, creating edible art for such celebrities as Oprah, Bono, Event Designer Collin Cowie, Jim Carey, Queen Latifah, and Dwayne Wade.

Brenda and Mary have made cakes shaped as iPods, turntables, televisions, popcorn, and even Wrigley Field. They are most famous for their signature "purse cakes." But their creativity really takes shape at holiday time:

3-D Teddy Bear Sitting on a Drum – A cuddly, rosy-cheeked bear wearing a large red bow sitting atop an old-fashioned drum.

Poinsettia Pot – A classic terra cotta pot with vibrant red poinsettia flowers abounding.

3 Stacked Christmas Ornaments – Three gorgeously hand-detailed Christmas ornaments stacked one on the other in bold reds.

Gift Box – A beautiful gift box laced with feminine details from the pink bow to the pearl broach.

Santa Climbing Out of Chimney – A Santa with a vintage flair climbing out of a chimney with his gift bag overflowing with traditional toys.

Christmas Tree – A fun and bright tree loaded with colored balled and topped off with a shining yellow star.
