The son of the mayor of Country Club Hills is being credited with busting an alleged drug dealer. Matthew Welch was in front of a restaurant when he noticed what he thought was a possible drug deal. He jotted down the license plate of the two cars involved and gave that information to his father back in the restaurant.

Country Club Hills police officers found the cars a few minutes later. They found cocaine, marijuana, a handgun and thousands of dollars in cash inside.

"I was just standing right outside the building here and I observed the two parties making a transaction and that was it," said Matthew Welch, mayor's son.

"Just streets smarts. He is not a police officer. He is a director of our local theatre. He went and came in and took the right description of the cars," said Dwight Welch, Mayor of Country Club Hills.

Police took two men into custody. Charges are pending.
