Women take more short periods of sick leave than men.

Researchers in Finland assessed periods of sick leave among 7,000 workers. Researchers found that women were 46 percent more likely than men to call in. The study's authors suggest women may be better at recognizing health problems and going to a doctor for treatment.

The study is published in the February 5 online journal Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
