Ponytail saves girl from drowning

Jazmine Peters was playing with her brother and cousins near the water last weekend. She was climbing on a tree when she slipped and fell into the canal.

At first, the boys thought Jazmine was joking when she started screaming. Then they sprang into action, using the tree for leverage as one grabbed her ponytail and the strap on her clothes to pull the girl out.

"I started to run over here and then I saw Jazmine and she couldn't even grip the ice. I grabbed onto that tree and I started grabbing on to her strap. And her hair was around it," said Jeffrey Gjavenis, rescued cousin.

Jazmine is fine, and the children had a great story to tell at school about the rescue.
