13 charged in series of northwest Indiana bank robberies

HAMMOND, Ind. The robberies in Gary, Hammond, Munster and Michigan City were in October, November and December of last year and this March. According to the indictments, none of the men took part in all five robberies.

Eight men were previously charged. Five others were named in the indictments issued Thursday.

Police expressed concern about the robberies because weapons were displayed and, in at least two instances, security guards were disarmed.

The FBI offered a $5,000 reward last year after noting similarities in the robberies.

Information on whether the men were in custody was not immediately available.
