Ill. principal faces sex charges in Wis.

SPRING GROVE, Ill. Daniel Markofski is the principal at Spring Grove elementary. He was arrested at a motel in the Milwaukee suburb of Glendale. Police say on Friday they found him there with two teenage girls.

The 47-year-old reportedly told officers that he met the 16-year-old through a phone chat line and she brought along her 15-year-old cousin.

Officers say the smell of marijuana is what led them to Markofski and the teens.

He is now charged with exposing a child to harmful material and having sexual intercourse with a child 16-years or older.

He is not accused of harming any children at the school.

Parents at Markofski's Illinois school nonetheless were shocked to learn about the charges.

"I was not notified. And that just -- i don't want them to come back to school tomorrow. It's awful," said parent Colleen Freund.

"I know my child is safe here, (but) I'm shaken from what happened," said Regina Congiusti, parent.

Markofski has been principal of Spring Grove Elementary since this school year and prior to that he was a teacher in Wisconsin for more than 20 years.

Markofski's bond was set at $20,000.

On Wednesday night, the board of education is holding an emergency meeting to discuss the situation and his job status.
