About half of Americans say they're 'thriving'

A new survey takes an unprecedented look at the health, wealth and happiness of the U.S. population. It finds 49 percent of people describe themselves as thriving with few health or money worries. Forty-seven percent considered themselves struggling mostly with money worries. Four percent say they are truly miserable with no hope for the future.

The new poll by Gallup and health consulting firm Healthways is an ongoing global survey that involves calling more than 1,000 people a day. It's hoped the findings will help launch a new approach to health care in the U.S.
