Author shares insight on teaching children Chinese

Chris Lin and his wife Kristi adopted their daughter Mandy from China. While taking Mandy to Chinese school Chris realized the need for materials to be available for reintegration at home and during the week. She is the inspiration behind the series of books teaching children Chinese. Today, Chris sees the market for his books as Americans like him who have adopted children from China and want the children to learn the language of their country, but he also sees the books as being great for Chinese -born parents who want their children to learn Chinese, as well as any other parent or grandparent who wants to help a child learn another language like Chinese.

The first book in the series Mandy and Pandy say "Ni Hao Ma?" has won the 2007 iParenting Media Award for Outstanding Products Call and Mandy and Pandy Let's Count has been nominated for the 2008 iParenting Media Award for Outstanding Products Call and the Parents Choice Award. The book is also sold in such stores as Barnes & Noble and Borders across the country.

With China being the most populous country in the world, it is only a matter of time before Chinese will replace Spanish as the language to learn -- especially as China becomes more of a business factor in the future of our children.
