The two year old boy was at the lakefront with his grandfather on April 18 when a wind gust blew his stroller into the water.
Since he was hospitalized, the toddler had been using a respirator to breathe. However, his family says he was strong enough to be taken off the machine on Tuesday.
The boy was transferred from Children's Memorial Hospital to the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
