About 40 children attending a summer head start program at Webster Elementary were sent home. Four nearby homes were also temporarily evacuated.
It took about 20 minutes to cap the leak. No one was hurt.
Gas main rupture on West Side
CHICAGO The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Arthington and Karlov Avenue. A Chicago water management construction crew hit a gas main.
