County will recognize same-sex marriages

CHICAGO The county board passed an amendment to the civil union registry Tuesday. The amendments sponsor says it's a matter of simple fairness.

"I'd like to think we're making progress and that discrimination against anyone is discrimination against everyone," said Mike Quigley, Cook County Board commissioner. "Hopefully, when my kids become elected officials, which is how things work around here I guess, we won't be talking about this. They'll wonder why we worried about such trivial matters."

The amendment passed overwhelming. There were only two dissenting votes.
