Ash borer found in Naperville

NAPERVILLE The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the bug was discovered a week ago in the Ashwood Park townhome development. About a dozen trees have since been removed.

This follows the discovery of the insect in several ash trees on Chicago's near South Side two weeks ago. The city has sprayed insecticides, cut down trees and set traps to catch the beetles.

The ash borer is smaller than a penny but is blamed for the destruction of 20 million ash trees since 2002.
