AAP recommends low-fat milk for some toddlers

The new guideline says two-percent milk would be appropriate for children between 12 months and two years who are at a higher than normal risk of becoming overweight or have a family history of high cholesterol, obesity or heart disease.

Previously, parents were urged to put children in that age group on whole milk. Doctors say the whole milk recommendation was started at a time when there wasn't a strong concern for childhood obesity.
