The makers of Airborne have agreed to pay $30 million to settle charges they made false claims about the product's cold-fighting benefits. The Federal Trade Commission said Thursday there is no evidence that products from Florida-based Airborne Health Incorporated provide any tangible benefit for people exposed to germs in crowded places.

Thursday's FTC action adds $6.5 million to a previous class action settlement in which Airborne agreed to pay more than $23 million in customer refunds. The company has since toned down wording about the products benefits.
