Chicago officials seeking pardon in Iowa for officer

It happened in Dubuque in October of 2005. Michael Mette's supporters say he punched Jake Gothard after Gothard pushed him.

Mette was found guilty of assault in 2006, although the judge said he wasn't the initial aggressor.

Cook County State's Attorney Dick Devine and Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis are seeking a pardon.

Iowa's governor is not commenting on the matter.

Mette has appealed. The Iowa Supreme Court will hear arguments next month.
