Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart says Lucas was in the victim's neighborhood with other magazine sellers. He returned overnight, broke into her home and attacked her. She fought back, injured him and he sought treatment in the hospital where she was also taken.
"Our people were at the hospital with her, trying to get the information from her," Dart said. "And this person appears in the hospital. And our people were able to put enough together from what he left at the scene to arrest him immediately."
Dart called the crime horrific and despicable. He urged people not to allow strangers into their homes.
