Group wants Obama, McCain to commit to Great Lakes

MILWAUKEE Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle is scheduled to give the keynote address Thursday morning at the 4th Annual Great Lakes Restoration Conference in Milwaukee.

Conference attendees plan to develop policy recommendations for the next president and Congress. Organizers have invited representatives from both presidential campaigns to discuss their candidates' environmental and Great Lakes platforms.

The conference is sponsored by Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition. The group wants the candidates to support a $20 billion federal plan to restore the lakes. The plan's goals include preventing contamination and cleaning up toxic pollution.
