Community alert issued following SE Side robberies

CHICAGO They happened over the summer in the South Shore neighborhood on the Southeast Side.

Police say the suspect approached and engaged victims in conversation, then displayed a blue steel handgun and demanded money and personal property. And in the strong-arm robberies, the offender approached his victims with his hand either under his shirt or wrapped in towel and demanded money. In both circumstances, the offender reportedly used physical violence if his demands were not met.

According to the alert, the crimes occurred at all hours of the day during June, July and and August. And they happened in an area from 75th to 79th streets between South Shore Drive and Brandon Avenue.

The offender was described as a black male in his mid to late teens, 6 feet and 180-190 pounds with dark complexion, wearing a white t-shirt and jeans.
