Man shot by police in Evanston

Illinois State Police are investigating a shooting involving a north suburban police officer. It happened around 10 a.m. Thursday morning near Davis and Benson in Evanston.

Police explain they were looking for a suspect involved in a battery there when they spotted a man matching a witness description.

The officer reports the suspect ignored his commands to stop then pulled out a knife. The officer reportedly shot the man when he charged at the officer.

The suspect was hit in the shoulder and taken to a hospital.

No charges have been filed.
