Melissa Calusinski, 22, is accused of throwing a 16-month-old, Benjamin Kingan, to the ground on January 14. The toddler was found unresponsive and later died of head injuries.
On Friday DCFS released a statement:
"Our hearts are with the family of Benjamin Kingan, and we share the concern and pain that all parents feel when they hear of such a tragedy. Today DCFS ordered the closure of the Minee Subee in the Park day care center in Lincolnshire, pending the outcome of criminal and child protection investigations. We have coordinated our efforts with law enforcement throughout, and we thank them for their assistance. DCFS is referring parents of children attending this center to alternate resources for day care. We have no further public comment at this time, out of deference to the ongoing criminal investigation."
Calusinski, a teacher's assistant at the day care facility, faces murder charges and is being held on a $5 million bond. Her next court date is February 17.
