Mediterranean diet could protect memory

The Mediterranean-style diet has been credited with lower rates of heart disease and diabetes, and now, new research suggests it may help protect the brain as well. This diet includes lots of green vegetables, whole grains, fish and healthy fats such as olive oil.

What researchers at Columbia University Medical Center discovered is those seniors who stuck with this diet were less likely to have memory problems over time.

They say the diet has multiple benefits to help protect the brain, including lowering blood-sugar and cholesterol levels and reducing inflammation in the body.
