City council to discuss pet sterilization

The Chicago City Council will take another look at a proposal to require pet owners to sterilize their cats and dogs. The council never voted on the measure when it was first introduced last summer because there was not enough support. It would have imposed a $500 per month fine on dog and cat owners who did not neuter or spay their pets.

But Alderman Ed Burke has revised the proposal so the fine is down to $100 per month.

The proposal is expected to be voted on at a committee meeting Thursday.
