Police were conducting a well-being check at the home after the victim's employer reported he didn't show up for work.
Police discovered the body of 53-year-old Richard Schmidt. He had been stabbed to death.
Authorities say several items were missing from the home, including Schmidt's vehicle.
Police are searching for a Blue 2008 Honda Fit with Illinois license plates A350882.
