Congress last year passed a bill authored by Bayh that allowed homeowners who do not itemize on their federal tax returns to take a new property tax deduction. That law is set to expire this year.
Under the provision pushed by Bayh and Indiana Rep. Baron Hill, individual non-itemizers could deduct up to $500 of their property tax bills from their federal taxes, and families could deduct up to $1,000.
Bayh now is proposing legislation that would make the deduction permanent.
Bayh will hold a news conference to discuss the proposal at Terre Haute International Airport.
