Couple robbed by 4 in Lincoln Park

Police release sketch of suspect in other robberies
August 7, 2009 (CHICAGO) Police have released a sketch of a suspect investigators think might be connected to a string of other robberies. They describe the offender as a man, six feet to 6'2", 170 to 190 pounds, muscular, possibly African-American or Hispanic.

On Friday morning around 3:30 a.m., a couple was reportedly walking home after parking their car at 430 West Deming Place. That's when police say three offenders got out of a car, came up behind them and stole the man's wallet, all while a four offender waited in the car.

This comes after a series of robberies in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.

"We're on it. And we certainly hope to catch these guys real soon. But it's very frustrating. We thought we would have had them before this time," said Supt. Jody Weis, Chicago Police Department.

Early Thursday morning, two men were robbed and beaten as they walked alone. On early Saturday morning, there were two more strong-arm robberies.

Police suspect these four robberies were committed by the same offenders due to similarities in the cases.

Now detective are looking at the possibility that Friday morning's robbery on Demming may be related the other four.

"Usually there are some indicators that it was not and then there have been indicators that it might be. Rather than to speculate I find it prudent to see that we get all the facts and then we'll make that call," said Weis.

While Superintendent Weis acknowledged the uptick of robberies in Lincoln Park, he says overall crime is down in the city.
