Former IIT president dies at 97

August 9, 2009 (CHICAGO) John Rettaliata was 97 years old when he died Saturday.

He served as president of IIT for more than two decades, beginning in 1952. Rettaliata also was a member of U.S. President Eisenhower's National Aeronautics and Space Council, the predecessor to NASA.

Rettaliata is survived by his wife, three children and several grandchildren.
