FAA: O'Hare runway debris problematic

September 24, 2009 (CHICAGO) The comments come after a report that inspectors found debris on runways that could threaten takeoffs and landings.

The report says the safety violations were found last month during routine inspections. The problems included failure to clear tall grass and weeds that could attract birds.

A Chicago aviation department spokeswoman says most of the problems have already been corrected.

The FAA says Chicago's own safety inspection records include inaccuracies.

The aviation department says it is working to solve the problem.
