Possible Sun-Times buyer talks about bid

October 6, 2009 (CHICAGO) Jim Tyree spoke at the Executives' Club breakfast at the Sheraton on Tuesday morning.

While union leaders are still negotiating about those concessions, Tyree says he's working to clarify his investment group's proposal. It has offered $26.5 million for the Sun-Times and 50 suburban newspapers.

"The proposal I put on the table in the beginning is one from my heart that I believe can allow this company to transform itself into something very successful. Maybe I made a mistake by putting that bluntly up in front," said Tyree.

On Thursday, the Sun-Times interim CEO will ask the bankruptcy court to approve the company's sale to Tyree's group.
