CTA looking at budget cuts

Under the proposed cuts for next year, 70 non- union jobs would be eliminated. Non-union workers will be required to take more furlough days.

CTA unions will be asked to find ways to cut expenses too.

"We continue to do the best we can internally to identify as many efficiencies as we can to avoid impacting our customers, last thing we want to do is impact our customers," said Richard Rodriguez, CTA president.

Earlier in the week, incoming CTA board chairman Terry Peterson said he can't take anything off the table in dealing with the agency's budget deficit. He did not rule out fare increases.
