Off-duty officer killed in Kennedy crash

October 12, 2009 (CHICAGO) The accident happened just after 4 a.m. in the outbound lanes of the expressway near the Nagle Avenue curve.

Investigators say Eric Berger, a 17-year veteran of the force, was the only person in the car and may have lost control on a curve. The vehicle rolled and he was ejected.

Berger, 52, was pronounced dead on arrival. Two lanes of traffic were closed as a result of the crash.

An investigation is underway into what caused him to crash.
