Alcohol can affect women's ability to lose weight

A new study finds that women who drank the equivalent of one to two drinks a day were up to 30 percent less likely to gain weight than women who did not drink.

Scientists reporting in the Archives of Internal Medicine say there could be a number of reasons for the findings, including that women tend to substitute alcohol for other foods.

Scientists warn this should not be used as a weight loss method. They add, other studies have found that even moderate drinking might raise the risk for breast, liver and other cancers in women
