Officer, police dog retire from force

March 15, 2010 (CHICAGO) Sandra La Porta spent 31 years on the force. Her partner, a police dog named Lakos, has been working by her side for 9 years. In dog years, that's 63 years.

During a ceremony at CPD headquarters Monday, La Porta spoke about her partnership with Lakos, who sniffed out $2.1 million in cash that was tainted with narcotics. Lakos also found $1.4 million in narcotics during her career.

La Porta said Lakos, who brought a rubber bone to the ceremony, saved her life twice from other dogs, including two pit bulls who attacked the officer.
