They talked with several Evanston Township high School students who appeared to post malicious comments on the Facebook page "Evanston Rats."
The students denied the accusations, suggesting someone cut and pasted their photos without their knowledge.
The high school district filed a complaint about the site on Monday.
All defamatory posts have been removed while police investigate the source.
