The victim, who is in his 50s, tells police he was jogging when three men approached him, stole his wallet and stabbed him four times in the chest.
The man was in stable condition at Northwestern Memorial Saturday evening. ABC7 is told he is visiting from out of town and was staying at a nearby hotel.
No one was in custody Saturday night.
