Scott Lee Cohen hints at run for governor

April 30, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Cohen attended a Polish Constitution Day event Friday night at the Chicago Cultural Center where he shook hands with Mayor Daley and fed speculation that he will announce an independent bid for governor on Monday.

"I don't want to be just another politician. I want to make sure I'm effective and genuinely going to help people. That's what I was going to do as lieutenant governor and if I could do it as governor, then I'll decide that's what I'll do," said Cohen.

Days after winning the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor, voters learned of Cohen's previous relationship with a prostitute and allegations of domestic abuse.
