A suburban physics teacher is among 10 teachers in Illinois being honored this year with the education system's highest award.

Scott Reed was selected out of 135,000 Illinois educators for a 2010 Golden Apple Award. Reed teaches at Niles North High School.

This is not the first time Reed has been acknowledged for his teaching expertise. In 2007 Reed was named a teacher of distinction.

He will join fellow Golden Apple honorees at a black-tie event in October.
