It happened just before 9 p.m. Wednesday night on the 5300-block of South Cottage Grove.
Eighty-year-old Lawrence Moore was crossing the street -- using his cane -- when police say a white or gray vehicle struck him.
The driver then kept going while Moore was on the hood of the car.
Moore was rushed to Northwestern Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Relatives of the victim are asking the driver to surrender.
"You took someone from us, whether it was accidental or not," said Marlene Fultz, Moore's niece. "At least apologize."
