Gov. Pat Quinn signed off on the legislation Monday.
The new law will affect roughly 10,000 statewide. It automatically adds Illinois to the interstate compact on educational opportunity for military children.
The measure seeks to remove barriers for service members' children in transferring schools and other school mandates including entrance exams.
There are currently 32 states that have signed onto the interstate compact.
