"It tore up all the furniture while trying to escape," said Leslie Piotrowski, spokesperson for the Lake County Health Department. The children's room was destroyed.
"Our animal control picked it up and released it into the wild," said Piotrowski, who said the healthy animal was taken out of the area before being released. The Lake County Health Department has followed up with the family, she said, and everyone is OK. She said the family is in the process of moving.
The animal was first heard scratching on the roof in June.
