A Crystal Lake woman declared not guilty by reason of insanity for the murder of her mother may be released from a mental health center.

Alice Bair, 68, was accused of beating her mother to death in 2001. After a brief trial, she was committed to the Elgin Mental Health Center.

Doctors are asking a judge to give her conditional release that would allow her to live on her own but remain under state supervision.
