An investigation is under way in northwest suburban Arlington Heights into the theft of $90,000 worth of copper wires.

The copper was stolen from old air conditioner units on top of the former Lone Star restaurant at 115 West Grand Avenue.

The units were destroyed when the copper piping was stolen. It will cost nearly $100,000 to replace them.

The theft occurred sometime between October 1 and 11.
