Meari and another soldier were killed last week in Afghanistan when insurgents attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device, or IED.
Meari's commander said the soldiers saved the rest of the unit from an attack.
The soldier from Plainfield will be buried at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
