Chicago mayoral candidate Miguel del Valle promises that, if elected mayor, he'll help small business by cutting what he calls archaic and oppressive red tape.

Chicago's city clerk met with food merchants and other small business owners today to hear their views on how government can help them.

Del Valle said it now takes months for a store owner to get approval to erect an awning. He said awnings, permits and other requests can be OK'd much more quickly while protecting the public interest.

The candidate stressed that small business creates most jobs and pledged to make Chicago a small business-friendly city.
