Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel toured Microsoft's technology center Wednesday and proposed using the firm's developments to improve Chicago's government.

Emanuel said he wants to put the city in the forefront of modernization, including updating the city's 311 information center. He gave an example of how technology can help residents.

"This capacity will allow people to take a picture from a telephone, or do it by computer and the internet, and send in not only the information, but the photo, and then the ability to access that information and track the progress that's being made addressing the pothole, or fallen tree, or any information," Emanuel said.

The mayor-elect said he hopes to make Chicago a center for the new technology.
