Report: Gary police must ticket 10 times per day

If you drive in Gary, Ind., beware: Traffic officers are under orders to issue more than one ticket per hour, according to the Post-Tribune.

The police commander says Gary requires at least 10 citations a day from each officer assigned to the traffic division. He says it's to increase productivity.

But the police union says it will have a negative impact on public perception. One prosecutor says quotas remove police officers' discretion, and a defense attorney says it will help lawyers challenge tickets.
