Antidepressants given without psychiatric condition?

August 4, 2011

What makes this worse is that many of the people taking antidepressants are receiving minimal benefits.

Americans are having a tough time dealing with every day stress, and doctors who are not psychiatrists are prescribing the drugs.

Antidepressants including Prozac, Paxil and Lexapro are now the third most widely prescribed group of drugs in the country.

Researchers at Johns Hopkins University found that many people take the drugs without being fully aware of the potential risks.

The study is published in the August issue of Health Affairs.
